NPP protests in support of NIT students

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Apr 28: Extending solidarity with the protesting nationalist students of NIT at Jantar- Mantar in New Delhi,  National Panthers Party activists led by  chairman Harshdev Singh and State president  Balwant Singh Mankotia  along with other activists  staged a protest demonstration against the indictment of  the nationalist students for NIT Kashmir row by the enquiry officer at Exhibition Ground here today.
Harshdev Singh termed the probe report submitted to the State Government by the ADC Srinagar as biased and prejudiced while lambasting the dispensation for showing apathy and indifference towards an explosive issue.
Deploring the obnoxious row in which the nationalist students were abused, assaulted and manhandled for upholding the sanctity of Tricolour, Harshdev Singh said that it was shocking and distressing that inquiry findings submitted to the Government on April 24 by the ADC Srinagar had reportedly indicted the out station nationalist students for allegedly vitiating the atmosphere inside the NIT Srinagar campus. He lamented that the biased and bigoted report might have devastating effect on the career of several students against whom two FIRs were slapped by the J&K police vis-a-vis on April 1 under sections 148 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 427 (mischief), 336 (endangering life of others), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and on April 5 under sections 353 (assault on public servant) and 188 (disobedience to public servant order) of the RPC.
Mr Singh further expressed his utter dismay over the statements of NIT authorities appearing in the media today suggesting arrests and rustication of several non- local students. He warned the authorities to desist from any such mis-adventure as it could lead to serious ramifications.
Admonishing further the NIT Srinagar authorities for their gross failure to tackle the situation which led to the exodus of the nationalist students from the valley, Mr Singh said that the olive branch extended by NIT-Srinagar is unlikely to end the impasse until the students demands for hoisting the Tricolour and permanent deployment of CRPF personnel on campus are accepted by the authorities.
Flaying the one-sided probe report submitted to the State Government,  Balwant Singh  and Mr  Kundal disclosed that NPP anticipating the probe to be partial and discriminatory had constituted its 5- member fact finding committee to investigate the truth behind the infamous row. They added that amnesty given to the anti nationals in NIT Kashmir and indicting the nationalist students would further embolden the fringe elements to break free and incite seditious activities all across the country.
