JAMMU, Oct 19: Alleging breakdown of law and order machinery in the State, Chairman of Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party (NPP), Harshdev Singh lambasted the Coalition Govt for its failure to rein in the anti- social, anti -national, communal and disruptive forces that were hell bent to vitiate peace and disrupt communal harmony in the State for their vested interests.
He said that NPP strongly condemned the nefarious designs of those who were trying to flare communal passions and disturb our age old traditions of communal amity and brotherhood for their narrow parochial ends. He was addressing a massive demonstration organized by NPP activists against the collapse of law and order in the State and immunity given to saboteurs, felons and malefactors by the BJP-PDP Govt. The angry protesters also torched the effigy of the coalition Govt.
Seeking the arrest of Engineer Rashid for whipping up communal passions, for his provocation by outraging religious sentiments and by committing heinous offence in full public view in MLA Hostel Srinagar, Harshdev said that nobody was above law and that the Coalition Govt needed to have acted tough against felons like MLA Rashid who have engineered communal passions across the length and breadth of the State. He said that the Udhampur incident of petrol bombing on Kashmir based truckers which had shocked the collective conscience of the society needed to be equally condemned.
Describing such elements as a threat to the secular fabric of the State, he said that they were enjoying immunity due to political patronage enjoyed by them. Charging the BJP-PDP for present turmoil, he said the both parties were trying to create communal divide in Jammu and Kashmir with a view to derive political benefits in their respective political constancies.
Balwant Singh Mankotia strongly flayed the communal and anti national forces which were trying to disturb peace and harmony in the State. He demanded strict action against all the offenders of law including Engineer Rashid who was responsible for inciting communal divide and for threatening peace in the two regions of the State.
