UDHAMPUR, Feb 21: A large number of Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party (NPP) workers today took to roads and held a massive demonstration followed by a dharna in Ramnagar town in protest against the murders of several innocents during the last one year in the area.
The agitated workers were raising slogans seeking the apprehension of culprits and booking them under Sec 302 RPC without further loss of time. The dharna continued for several hours and was lifted only upon the assurance of SDPO Ramnagar besides other officers.
While speaking on the occasion, Chairman of the NPP Harshdev Singh expressed grave concern over the spate of killings during the last one year in Ramnagar wherein six lynched bodies including four belonging to Scheduled Caste community were found with none of the criminals having been apprehended. He said that the criminal elements were at large in Ramnagar tehsil with no action initiated against them in view of political patronage enjoyed by them.
He alleged that there were several episodes wherein, people belonging to weaker and marginalized sections of society were thrashed and beaten up in full public view with the offenders going scot free. He said the workers of a particular political party were openly threatening general public and workers of Panthers Party but no cognizance was being taken in view of political clout enjoyed by the offenders.
