Notorious narcotics trafficker arrested with Rs 2 lakh heroin

JAMMU, June 27: Keeping hawks eye over the narcotics smuggling, Gandhi Nagar police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ busted a drugs cartel operating through Mughal Road with the arrest of notorious narcotics trafficker along with 20 grams of heroin valuing Rs 2 lakh.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Gandhi Nagar Police Station laid a naka near cremation ground at Shastri Nagar and asked a pedestrian to stop for checking, but on seeing police cops, the pedestrian escaped from the spot and entered into a by lane. Stinking something fishy, the cops searched several by lanes near the naka point and finally nabbed the pedestrian.
During frisking, the cops recovered 20 grams of heroin valuing Rs 2 lakh and arrested the pedestrian, who during initial questioning turned out to be a notorious drugs trafficker.
The accused has been identified as Ishtiaq Ahmed, son of Kalu, a resident of Rajdhani, Tehsil Thanna Mandi, district Rajouri.
During further questioning, it came to fore that the accused had purchased the consignment from Kashmir and by trafficking it through Mughal Road was on his way to hand over the same to his associates in Jammu for selling among the youth so as to make them drug addicts and to make illegitimate profits.
It is to mention here that the arrested accused was a notorious drug peddler and was earlier also arrested with 100 grams of heroin valuing Rs 10 lakh. A case under FIR Number 88/17 under Section 8/21/22 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act already stands registered against him at Police Station Gangyal.
With his arrest, the police not only saved the youth from becoming drug addicts, but also saved their families from daily quarrels as it is understood that a drug addict create nuisance in family and society in general.
A fresh case under FIR Number 145/18 under Section 8/21/22 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station and investigation started to ascertain the source of the consignment and other persons indulged in this illegal trade practice.
Police team led by SHO Gandhi Nagar Inspector Sunil Singh Jasrotia and assisted by SI Rohit Bhagat and ASI Shesh Pal made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, SP South Sandeep Choudhary and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
