JAMMU, Aug 31: Moving ahead with its mission to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Gandhi Nagar police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ smashed a drugs trafficking racket operating from cross LoC by arresting a notorious narcotics smuggler hailing from Udhampur District along with Pakistan smuggled 120 grams heroin valuing Rs 48 lakh in the international market.
As per police sources, on reliable information, a team from Gandhi Nagar Police Station laid a naka near cremation ground Shasti Nagar and signalled a Santro car bearing registration number JK14B-4771 to stop for checking.
Instead of stopping, the driver accelerated the vehicle and escaped from the spot. Stinking something fishy, the cops intercepted the vehicle after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 120 grams of heroin valuing Rs 48 lakh in the international market from the possession of driver and arrested him.
The arrested person has been identified as Mohammad Sadiq, son of Haji Jawar, a resident of Sail Kohir Ber, Tehsil Majalta District Udhampur.
During preliminary questioning, the accused, who happens to be a notorious drugs peddler, disclosed that he had brought the consignment from Kashmir, which was pumped in from Pakistan side for selling among the youth in Udhampur, Samba and Kathua districts so as to ruin their future.
With his arrest, police not only smashed the drug trafficking racket operating from cross LoC, but also saved the youth from becoming drug addicts.
A case under FIR Number 198/18 under Section 8/21/22 Narcotics Drugs and Psychot-ropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station and investigation started to arrest other members of the racket.
Police team led by SHO Gandhi Nagar Inspector Sunil Singh Jasrotia and assisted by SI Rohit Bhagat and ASI Shesh Pal made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, Incharge SP South Vinay Kumar and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
