JAMMU, Mar 22: The Department of Legal Metrology conducted extensive checking of the Vishal Mega Mart at Kunjwani and booked 14 manufacturers from outside the state for not adhering to the marking of mandatory declarations as per the provisions of law enforced for the purpose.
The department also issued notice to the management for adopting restrictive trade practices by way of restricting consumers regarding another things from the same shop in lieu of any exchange.
According to Manoj Prabhakar, Deputy Controller Legal Metrology that few days back, a consumer complained few garments purchased from the said shop on which MRP was not displayed prominently and the price was too high. The consumer insisted for refund of money but the store refused.
On inspection it was found that number of brands of reputed companies were deficient of requisite mandatory declarations on the pre-packed products like biscuits, chips, garments, crockery items, imported confectionaries etc. Besides on few products declarations were not marked legibly as per the provisions of packaged commodities rules for the information of consumers. Accordingly, 14 manufacturers were booked by Inspector Legal Metrology M.N. Qazi under different provisions of the Act & establishments were directed to prominently the MRP of each item on the packages & no deceptive packages.
