JAMMU, Dec 23: Dr Om Prakash Gupt, an internationally acclaimed literary figure and former HoD, Hindi Department, University of Jammu, passed away this morning at his Greater Kailash residence due to cardiac arrest.
He was 74 and is survived by his wife Subhash Gupta, brother Prof KG Gupta and two sons—Dr Mrityunjay and Digvijay Gupta. Cremation will take place at 11.30 a.m. at Shastri Nagar, Cremation Ground on Tuesday.
Dr Gupt had authored a number of books in Hindi, published more than 540 papers, reviewed 30 books, spent 30 years in research and won several national and international awards for his widely popular books. Most of his books occupied important positions in Universities, colleges, higher secondary schools and other educational institutions.
Dr Gupt was founder member of Yuva Hindi Lekhak Sangh, Jammu, life member of Rashtra Bhasha Samiti, Meerut and member Central Committee and Hindi Advisory Committee of J&K Cultural Academy.
Born in Sialkote, Pakistan, Dr Gupt took to the teaching and rose to the rank of HoD Hindi in Jammu University.
His books Setuon Ki Khoj, Suno Markandeya and Arunodaya were awarded by J&K Academy, Thirkay Patta Peepal Ka and Kavita Jo Sakshi Ho by Government of India and Pariyon Ki Rani by NCERT.
