JAMMU, Sept 19: Noted Canadian Urdu scholar, Dr Taqi Abdi delivered an extension lecture on Faiz Ahmed Fiaz, organized by the Department of Urdu, University of Jammu, here today.
The function was presided over by former Director NCPUL and Prof JNU New Delhi, Dr. Khawaja Ekram-ud-Din while Prof. R D Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Jammu University, was the chief guest on the occasion . Prof. Zia-ur-Rehman, from Urdu Teaching & Research Centre Central Institute of Indian Languages, Ministry of HRD, Govt of India, Saproon Solan was also present on the occasion.
In his thought provoking lecture. Dr. Taqi Abdil informed that the relevance of poetry of Fiaz Ahmed Fiaz is much more even today keeping in view the prevailing situation of India. “Faiz Ahmed Fiaz was not only a progressive writer but he also contributed towards Urdu prose, especially Urdu letters writings,” he said .
In his presidential address, Prof. Kawaja Ekram-ud-Din threw light on various aspects of poetry of Faiz Ahmed Fiaz. He particularly discussed his progressive poetry and described him as the tallest poet of Progressive writer movements.
Prof R D Sharma, in his speech, announced that a proposal will be sent to different bodies of universities for appointing Dr. Taqi Abdi as honorary Professor of Jammu University.
Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik introduced Dr Taqi Abdi to the audience. He informed that professionally Dr Taqi Abdi is a Physician and cancer specialist in Europe but he has authored above fifty (50) books in Urdu which are considered of high caliber. “It would be a matter of pride for Jammu University if he is appointed a honorary professor in the Department of Urdu. He would visit the department twice a year to enrich the students and scholars by new development of Urdu language and literature,” Dr Shohab said .
Earlier, Vice-Chancellor released three books of Dr Taki Abdi on Iqbal and Hali, two books of Prof. Zia-ur-Rehaman on Hindi and Urdu dictionary and Asa-llab-fikar.
Later, a Urdu Mushira was organized in honour of Dr. Taqi Abdi in which prominent poets recited their poetry.
