Srinagar, Mar 17: Normalcy returned to Kashmir valley after 4 days since imposition of curfew following killing of a man in Srinagar on Wednesday. Markets opened across Kashmir on Sunday and even some schools also remained open after continued curfew.
The authorities this morning lifted curfew from parts of Srinagar that was imposed across Kashmir on Wednesday after the killing of a man Altaf Ahmad Wani in Zoonimar area of Srinagar in CRPF firing.
Curfew was imposed across Kashmir valley on Thursday and Friday to prevent any violence. On Saturday, curfew was lifted from entire Kashmir valley but it remained in force in old city area of Srinagar.
As four days of the week were wasted to strike and curfew, various private schools remained open on Sunday. The Delhi Public School Srinagar and Budgam and several other schools remained open today to compensate the losses suffered by the students.
Parents of the students are happy over the decision taken by some private school authorities and have urged that all the schools should remain open on Sundays to compensate the losses.
Parents have also urged upon both the Government and separatists to ensure that education of the students does not get affected by the frequent strikes and curfew in Valley.
Director School Education M Shafi Rather said here that department has given clear instructions to all the employees to attend their duties. He said any negligence on part of any employee will be dealt with sternly.
In the meantime, the Muttahida Majlis-e-Mushawrat (MMM), an amalgam of various separatist organizations, spearheading campaign to seek returns of mortal remains of, Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru, on Sunday announced a fresh protest calendar for upcoming week.
According to a statement issued here, people have been asked to hold protest demonstrations on Monday in the evening. Students have been asked to hold protest demonstrations in their respective colleges and universities on Tuesday.
The MMM has called for complete shut down on Wednesday to protest against house arrest of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Gilani, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Muhammad Yasin Malik and continued detention of Shabbir Ahmad Shah and his shifting to Kotbhalwal Jail, Jammu besides arrests and crackdowns on Kashmiri youth by the authorities.
People have been asked to observe complete blackout in the evening on Thursday. They have also asked for protests at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
