Non-local driver injured in militant attack, OGW arrested

SRINAGAR, Apr 7: A non-local driver was injured in a militant attack at Yader area of Pulwama district while militants slipped out of an overnight cordon in Shopian district and an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of militants was apprehended from Kupwara.
An official said that militants fired upon a non-local driver identified as Sonu Sharma, son of Banarasi Sharma of Pathankot at Yader Pulwama.

He was immediately rushed to District Hospital Pulwama where he is undergoing treatment.
He said that the area was cordoned off to nab the attackers.
Meanwhile, police arrested an OGW of militants and recovered incriminating material from him in the Lolab area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
A police spokesman said that a joint team of Police Station Sogam, along with 28 RR and 162 Bn CRPF has apprehended one OGW from Gudmacher area of Lolab Kupwara.
He identified the arrested OGW as Owais Ahmad Khan, son of Ghulam Muhammad Khan of Khancheck Tekipora Lolab.
“During preliminary investigation, he was found to be in contact with a Pakistani based militant handler, who had motivated him to join militant ranks. Some incriminating material has also been seized from the arrested person,” the spokesman said.
“Further investigation in the case has been taken up and more arrests in this network cannot be ruled out,” he added.
In the meantime, after a brief exchange of fire last evening, militants managed to give slip to the security forces in Haripora Imamsahib area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
An official said that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in the area on Wednesday evening.
He said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering a gunfight.
He added that after initial exchange of fire, no contact was established with the militants.
He added that cordon layers were tightened after initial exchange of fire, however, nothing has been found following which operation has been called off.
