JAMMU, Sept 25: Vice Chancellor, Jammu University, Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, said that no society is secure if any section of society is deprived of its needs.
Prof Ishar said this, during an awareness workshop for developing and identifying location for specific research, development and demonstration project for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, organised by University of Jammu, in collaboration with J&K State Council for Science and Technology (SC/ST), DST, GoI.
Prof Ishar, who was chief guest, said that SC/ST represents vast section of society.
Prof Rekha Choudhary, Dean Research Studies, University of Jammu, highlighted the need for discussing issues of the marginalized communities.
Prof SK Khosa, Dean, Faculty of Sciences, University of Jammu, emphasized on economic upliftment of weaker sections without displacing them from their location.
Ravinder Gaur, DST, GOI in his keynote address, said that DST is going to fund projects worth Rs 3 to Rs 5 crore, with clear justification and method of implementation, for the welfare of SC/ST community.
Earlier, Prof Neeru Sharma, HOD Home Science, University of Jammu, presented the welcome address as also the report of the session/ workshop.
First technical session was chaired by Prof Rajni Dhingra, Convenor, BOS, Department of Home Science, University of Jammu. There were six invited speakers from the DST (GOI), State Departments of Planning and Industry, SC/ST and BC Board, NEILIT and University of Jammu.
The second technical session was chaired by Prof GM Bhat, Head, Department of Geology, University of Jammu.
During the valedictory session, Prof SK Khosa, was the chief guest. Certificates were distributed among participants.
Among others present were Prof Neelam Saraf, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof MK Dhar, Controller of Examinations, Prof Jasbir Singh, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee, faculty members from University departments, teachers from colleges of the State and officials of NGOs.
