No housing colonies developed by J&K HUDD prior to 2019: MoS Home

JAMMU, Mar 29: The Government has stated that no housing colonies and commercial sites have been developed by the Housing and Urban Development Department during the past more than two decades for any category prior to 2019.
This was disclosed by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai in response to a question by Bharatiya Janata Party  MP of Rajya Sabha Gulam Ali on development of Housing Infrastructure in J&K.
Ali wanted to know as to how many Housing Colonies have been established by Housing Department, JK Housing Board, Srinagar Development Authority, Jammu Development Authority for SCs, STs, OBCs, EWS and poor in J&K during last five years~ how many commercial sites have been developed for SCs, STs, OBCs, EWS, tribals and poor in J&K and allotted to them~ whether there is any proposal for setting up and allotting affordable housing units and which were the housing colonies set up by J&K Government and how many housing units were allotted.
In his reply, Nityanand Rai informed that post 2019, Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) has developed multi-storeyed housing project at Bemina namely Shehjar Apartments comprising 140 flats spread across five residential blocks/towers and these apartments have been allotted to the general public through draw of lots and no provision of reservation for any category was kept in the allotment process.
The SDA has also recently invited applications for allotment of plots in Srinagar Satellite Township in December 2022; under this 25% of plots are provisioned for various reserved categories including SC/ST 5%, Handicapped persons 2%, war widows 1% and recent widows 2%.
Further post 2019, Jammu and Kashmir Housing, Affordable Housing, Slum Redevelopment and Rehabilitation and Township Policy 2020 has also been notified wherein private developers and Government Agencies including Development Authorities have to reserve a minimum of 20% of the dwelling units in all their housing schemes for EWS & LIG Housing, Rai said.
He said 976 flat accommodation under the EWS category at various stages of development are proposed which include 208 one-room flats by JDA under ‘Mera Bhi Ek GharHoga’ at Lower Roop Nagar, Muthi, Jammu and 768 Flat accommodation by Housing Board for EWS under PMAY-U at Bhalwal, Jammu.
