Srinagar, Mar 22: There were no large gathering of people on the occasion of Shab-e-Meraj as major mosques and shrines were closed two days ago here to prevent spread of Coronavirus.
The large gatherings were otherwise held at Dargah Hazratbal, Asar-e-Sharif Soura and Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, but the Auqaf has barred all the congregational prayers at all the shrines and masjids falling under its control in J&K.

However, smaller gatherings were held at local masjids with most of them not offering night long prayers. People across Kashmir preferred to stay indoors as a part of social distancing that has been happening for a few days now.
It is pertinent to mention here that the J&K Muslim Wakaf Board has ordered the suspension of religious gatherings and displaying of Holy Relic (PBH) on the eve of Shab-e-Meraj celebration-the celebrations which otherwise gather thousands at one single place-in view of the situation arising due to COVID-19 in Kashmir.
The Grand Mufti had also asked people to avoid religious gatherings and ceremonies, including weddings.
“We prayed for the pandemic that has affected the entire world to end soon; we prayed for the safety and security of the people of J&K especially,” a devotee said.
