No force used to regulate Muharram procession: Police

Srinagar, Aug 8 : Police today said that no force was used to regulate the Muharram procession in Srinagar.
“Some fake news (reports) are being circulated by vested interests about yesterday’s Muharram by using old pictures and sharing them with oblivious media outside Kashmir. It is again categorically told that no force was used to regulate one Muharram route yesterday (banned since many decades)”, said a police spokesperson in a statement.
“Muharram processions are being peacefully held all over Srinagar, only 2 routes aren’t allowed among 100 others which are allowed”, the spokesperson said adding “the two aren’t allowed due to possibility of sectarian clashes/ law & order”.
“The chronic mischievous tendency of some vested interests to spread fake news with intentions of fomenting trouble in the City will be dealt with law”, the statement reads.
“Srinagar Police is a professional force and is well aware of its duties of maintaining law and order in city”, the statement reads.
