Government has launched massive campaign of issuing Aadhaar cards to every Indian citizen. This is a very important card, which serves so many purposes and can be used at so many places as authentic proof of citizenship of India and local address. Going further with the plan Government of India has ordered linking of Aadhaar card to bank account, insurance, ration card and many other services. The Government has made it obligatory to link the Aadhaar card to ration card in order to prevent corruption and duplication etc.
However a snag append in the case of some of the poor and below the poverty line citizens of India who have not received their Aadhaar card as yet. Since it is mandatory to produce the Aadhaar card and then alone would the ration from Public Distribution Service supplied to the consumer, the poor who have not been able to obtain the Aadhaar card had to go without food. When would they be able to obtain their Aadhaar card they are not aware. This matter came to the notice of the Government and now the Central Government has issued fresh order saying that nobody will go without food whatever be the case. It has issued orders that supply of food will not be denied to the poor and BPL consumers even if they have not been able to obtain their Aadhaar card or that the card may take some more time to be issued.
This order has brought relief to millions of people in the country who have not been able to obtain the card so far. The Government has given them the option of obtaining their cards till the end of March 2018 and till that time they will continue to receive the ration as usual. So far, 82 per cent of the ration cards have been seeded with Aadhaar number in the country. We hope that authorities in the State will contribute their share in issuing Aadhaar cards to each and every citizen of the State before the end of March 2018.
