SRINAGAR, July 17: High Court today directed the Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Department to ensure that no construction is done on about 200 meters on either side of river Lidder.
Division Bench comprising Justice Virender Singh and Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar while hearing the arguments in a Public Interest Litigation titled Pahalgam People’s Welfare Organisation versus State, also gave three months time to Government for finalizing the revised Master Plan for Pahalgam.
Earlier, the Government through Advocate General M.I. Qadri submitted the compliance report, filed by Chief Town Planner, Pahalgam and stated that some things have been delayed due to some reasons.
The court observed, “we expected the Chief Town Planner must have done it.”
The bench also observed that there will be no Nallah left in the valley after 15 years the way construction is going on river (Lidder) banks. “Protect it (the river banks) for progeny and next generation,” the court observed.
Parvez Imroz was the counsel for Pahalgam Peoples Welfare Organization.
