NEW DELHI, June 28: Addressing the “Jammu Kashmir Sammelan” organized by Dogra Welfare Foundation here today, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh emphatically stated that there is no compromise on Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee’s ideology and that, this message should go out loud and clear.
Describing Jammu & Kashmir as a sensitive “nerve centre” for BJP Karyakartas across the country, Dr Jitendra Singh said, it is Jammu & Kashmir which inspired Shyama Prasad Mookerjee’s nationalist struggle for which he also laid down his life on the soil of Jammu & Kashmir. The ideological linkage of Jammu & Kashmir is therefore as crucial for the BJP cadre outside Jammu & Kashmir as it is for the organization within Jammu & Kashmir, he observed.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, two generations of the “Sangathan” have grown up under the legacy of independent India’s most underrated icon Shyama Prasad Mookerjee and hence, commitment to India’s integrity and sovereignty is deeply embedded in our psyche which cannot be compromised by any other considerations. Recalling an anecdote when Jawaharlal Nehru had lost temper at Shyama Prasad Mookerjee’s ideological beliefs and shouted at him saying “Mookerjee, I will crush this mentality”, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, Mookerjee had retorted back saying “I shall crush this crushing mentality”. This determination and this commitment is precisely what defines our dedication to all that what Mookerjee stood for, he said.
Taking a dig at the Opposition, Dr Jitendra Singh said, those who had denounced Shyama Prasad Mookerjee for 60 years, have now suddenly started reminding BJP of Mukherjee’s ideology simply because they are unable to digest the sight of BJP coming to power.
For over half a century, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the organization has survived because our founding fathers laid down their lives to keep the cause alive. Deendayal Upadhyay, who was a close associate of Mookerjee, not only set an example of consistency, conviction and commitment but later, like Mookerjee, ended up achieving martyrdom under mysterious circumstances on a railway platform, he added.
Justifying BJP entering into a coalition with PDP in Jammu & Kashmir, Dr Jitendra Singh said, this was a part of BJP’s democratic obligation towards its voter who had given the party a decisive mandate of 25 seats to assume power. Sixty years ago, he recalled, when Shyama Prasad Mookerjee was asked by many sceptics as to why he had suddenly chosen to float a political party in the form of Bharatiya Jan Sangh, his answer was that political authority is the means which has to be seized to implement the agenda that we want.
In case of the coalition in Jammu & Kashmir, however, Dr Jitendra Singh said, since the BJP and PDP are ideologically apart, the party has “agreed to disagree” on ideological issues and concentrate entire time, energy and focus on the larger issue of development, particularly equitable development of all the three regions of the State. Justice and fair deal for Jammu should be the foremost priority, he added.
