No age relaxation for J&K candidates in UPSC exams

JAMMU, Feb 7: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) which conducts Civil Service Examination every year for IAS/IPS/IFS has stopped the age relaxation for the J&K candidates from this year.
Official sources said that the UPSC used to provide age relaxation in upper age limit up to a maximum of five years if a candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in the  Jammu and Kashmir State during the period from the 1st January, 1980 to December 31, 1989.
The age relaxation limit was last renewed in 2015 for two years up to December  2017. However, there is no mention of upper age relaxation limit in the new notification issued by UPSC on Feb 7, 2018.
The aspirants said that when they contacted UPSC officials, they were told that no file has been received from Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) regarding age relaxation.
Further, no notification was issued either by UPSC or D0PT in this regard.
“We are shocked and disappointed. There are some aspirants who have even left their jobs and are preparing for this exam,” said a visibly disappointed aspirant.
“We fail to understand what could be the possible reasons for non- renewal of upper age relaxation as we have been toiling hard to prepare for this prestigious exam and our career is at stake,” he maintained.
Meanwhile, a group of students also approach DoPT and Home Ministry of Central Government and UPSC as well. The group also met the concerned person in Home Ministry of State Government and got the file moved bearing No. GAD/Mtg/RB-IV/22/2002 dated 20-12-2017. It was forwarded with comments to Joint Secretary, Central Home Ministry.  In spite of pursuance, the age relaxation didn’t reflect in  UPSC 2018 Notification. The policy was to give age relaxation to domicile of  J and K who were born in a disturbed environment. Many candidates qualified national exams in top ranks by taking benefit of this policy in the past.
