JAMMU, Apr 30: National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) leader, Subash Shastri today urged upon the Prime Minister to declare May Day as a National Gazetted holiday as a befitting tribute to May day martyrs.
In a memorandum sent to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, Shastri said that because of May day martyrs, working class got its rights throughout the world and India being the largest and most vibrant democracy across the globe and the front-line welfare state, should declare May 1 as Gazetted holiday.
Shastri said this will be a great gesture, as it may recognize the valuable contribution of the working class in all round development of the country and fulfill the most genuine and long pending demand of the working class.
Reminding that the then Government led by VP Singh had declared May day as Gazette holiday in the country in 1990, Shastri asked why it was not continued thereafter.
In the memorandum Shastri also appealed the Modi Govt for merger of 50% DA in to basic pay/pension, release of 18 months pending DA installment arrears and payment of 20% interim relief in favour of both Central/States Governments employees and pensioners and issuance of formal order for release of 2 percent DA due from January 1, 2026.
