Srinagar, Mar 12: The Pontoon brought in by the Nigeen Lake Conservation Organization (NLCO) was today launched into the Khushal Sar while another round of cleaning was also started.
The ceremony was carried out in the presence of Divisional Commissioner, Pandurang K. Pole, Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo of NLCO, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Aijaz Asad and Commissioner SMC, Athar Amir.
Speaking on the occasion, Wangnoo said that under Mission Ehsaas the cleaning of the Khushal Sar was started in February last year and with the active support of the administration, the entire exercise has remained successful.
“Initially, I was alone at the first and then others joined me; after that, the administration came along; the cleaning has been done, another round has been carried out for the sustainability
Regarding the Pontoon, Wangnoo said that it is an important element of the cleaning of the water body. “For this, it had requested some friends, who then provided the same,” he said while lauding the role of SMC, LCMA, Irrigation and Flood Control for their role.
Divisional Commissioner on the occasion recalled the day he visited the spot over a year ago and that without public participation, such endeavours are not possible.
“We along with the NLCO have cleaned the Khushal Sar, and we are working on cleaning the Gilsar and the same will continue in days to come,” he said.
