JAMMU, June 1: The inhabitants of Lane No 5 Nitar Kotian, Barnai near here have expressed concern over the closure of over 30 year old drain in the area by army which has resulted in health hazards.
In a statement issued today the inhabitants of the locality said that with the construction of a building complex by the army, the main drain, which was flowing from the area has been closed and the entire water of the area gets accumulated in the lane.
They said the matter was brought in the notice of authorities and even the Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister, Raman Bhalla, Deputy Commissioner Jammu and MLC Vijay Bakaya visited the area and assured that the problem will be solved at an earliest.
The people of the locality said that even after lapse of three months no action has been taken by the authorities either to divert the drain from other side or settle the issue with army authorities who have blocked decades old drain and added to the worries of the people.
Fearing worst they said that the stagnation of water can lead to spread of epidemic in coming Monsoon and with increasing rain water flow there is every apprehension that the drainage water may enter the residential houses.
In an appeal to the concerned authorities the residents of the area have urged them to take immediate remedial measures and relieve the people of the worry. The people warned that they will be forced to come to streets in case the authorities failed to solve the problem.
