SAMBA, June 1: In a major fire incident in Barian area near Devak bridge, eight Kullahs of eight Gujjar families were completely gutted this evening.
Reports said the fire broke out at around 6 pm due electric wire sparking in one of the Kullahs in the locality, just near Hanuman Temple along the National Highway. As the roof top of all the huts were made up of dry grass, all the structures came under fire within short time. The family members however, ran away to safety. They also removed their cattle away from the huts.
Five fire tenders from Vijaypur and Samba Station and one from Army were rushed to the site. The police party from Sapwal Post and Samba besides Army troops from nearby 168 Infantry brigade also reached the spot in no time. Only a few house hold items could be saved by the families. Majority of the items and other belongings kept in the huts had already been destroyed before the Fire men reached the spot. However, they contained the fire within an hour.
The fire victims are identified as Roshan Din, son of Musa, Yaqoob, son of Roshan Din, Sapaia, son of Kalia, Hashim Din, son of Abdul Ghani, Mohd Sharief, son of Hassan Mohd, Zakar Hussain, son of Mohd Sharief, Abdul Karim, son of Ibrahim and Abdul Ghani, son of Gulabu.
DC Samba Mubarak Singh, MLA Samba, Yashpal Kundal and MLC Master Noor Hussain visited the spot. The DC and his staff stayed there for some time and provided tents, Rs 3000 per family and free ration as immediate relief to the fire victims. The district administration also provided cooked food to these families in the evening and the troops and police helped them in erecting tents.
