JAMMU, Feb 8: To celebrate 74th birth anniversary of Jagjit Singh (February 8, 1941- October 10, 2011), prominent Indian ghazal singer, songwriter and musician, a musical tribute based on the popular numbers of the maestro was organized on ‘ghazal day’, by Jagjit Fan Club and Nirvana Academy, at the Red Cross Bhavan Auditorium, her today.
The evening titled ‘Yaddein Jagjit Ki’ , held in collaboration with Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu, began with fans of Jagjit Singh such as Nandani Kapoor, Manjit Singh and Dr Kewal Samnotra ‘Wahid’ singing maestro’s popular numbers like ‘Tum Ko Dekha To Khayal Aaya’, Chitthi Na Koi Sandesh’, Yeh Tera Ghar, Yeh Mera Ghar’.
The highlight of the program was soulful rendering of ghazal king’s well known ghazals, geets and nazams by nationally acclaimed musical duo of Neelam and Subhash Langeh. The artistes who gave accompaniment included Vikas Nagar on guitar, Vicky Gill on synthesizer and Vijay Verma on tabla.
Dr Ashik Raza, a noted social activist and Jagjit Fan Club member, also presented a detailed paper on the life and musical journey of Jagjit Singh who along with his wife Suchitra Singh with their unique style gave a new dimension to ghazal singing in Indian sub-continent.
Sameer Bharti, IFS, Chief Conservator Forests, was the chief guest, while Anjali Sharma, Director Door Darshan Kendra Jammu, Ravi Puri, secretary, IRCS, were guests of honour. Special guests were Pradeep Dutta from Times Now, Jyoti Pachnanda of Sahara Samey, Sohail Kazami, senior journalist, Vikrant Dogra, vice chairman, FIDBO, Vikul Gupta, chairman Araivan group. Mohammad Aslam Qureshi, IAS (retd), presided over the function.
Earlier Hemu Karki, chairperson, Jagjit Fan Club, while welcoming the guests, said that the Jagjit Fan Club shows solidarity with Chitra Singh, who is fighting lone battle to get her husband, Jagjit Singh, the Bharta Ratna. She said that birthday of the ghazal king should be declared as National Ghazal Day.
Hitesh Badyal, president Nirvana Academy presented the vote of thanks and expressed special thanks to Mindscape Educational & Environmental Trust, Darpan Beauty Parlour and Little Millennium chain of play way schools, for supporting the event.
