JAMMU, Feb 14: Third annual peace symposium on “the Devastating Consequences of a nuclear war and the critical need for absolute justice” was organized by Ahmadiyya Sect of Muslims at Jammu Club here, today.
The people from different religions, sects and regions participated in the two and a half hour long symposium which was presided over by Moulana Mohammad Hameed Kousar, All India Secretary Muslim Jamat Ahamdiyya. Dr Nirmal Singh former Deputy Chief Minister and leader of BJP Legislative Party was the chief guest on the occasion.
Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Simrandeep Singh, Justice JP Singh, retired Judge of J&K High Court and Member State Accountability Commission (SAC), Prof Ashok Aima, Vice Chancellor Central University, Jammu and Prof R D Sharma Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu were the guests of honour.
The programme started with recitation of verses from holy Quran by Kamran Ahmad. Different scholars and prominent personalities including S S Bijral, (retd) IG, S K Jain, Prof Rajnikant and Moulana Aleem Ahmad Aftab threw light on the topic and appealed people to work for maintenance of peace in the society.
Speaking on the occasion, BJP Legislative Party leader, Dr Nirmal Singh said that Ahmadiyya Muslims are totally nationalist people who always worked for maintenance of peace and brotherhood in the country. He however appealed them to come forward in intensifying its pro national activities in J&K where the situation is altogether different from rest of the country.
He said the community should work against the secessionists and terrorists in J&K also so that others will get inspired by it.
He, while referring to the JNU situation termed it a conspiracy to breach peace in the country so that situation deteriorates from bad to worse. He said such type of activities were made in J&K by separatists and militants from time to time also and Ahmadiyya Sect of Muslims can perform its role in containing such activities and fostering peace in the country as well.
In his address Justice (retd) J P Singh appreciated the Jamaat for its initiative with such social relevance and stressed for holding such programmes and interactive sessions so that peace and harmony is established in the society. Justice Singh further said “peace can only be attained when one is at peace with oneself”.
In his welcome address Gohar Hafeez Fani highlighted Ahmadiyya Muslim community’s contribution to the society irrespective of the religion, caste or creed. He said these peace symposiums are one of the flagship events of the Jammat around the world. The aim of these events is to achieve the larger goal of attaining peace in the society by bringing people from diverse walks of life together and provide them a forum to exchange ideas and experiences on its attainment in this pluralistic society world-wide.
Prof Ashok Aima and Prof R D Sharma vice chancellors of Central University and JU respectively lauded the role of Ahmadiyya Muslims community in various fields while the speakers including I D Soni and Dr R R Khajuria appreciated the role of spiritual head of Ahmadiyya Muslim community Mirza Masroor Ahmed for his efforts towards restoration of peace across the globe.
In his presidential address Moulana Mohammad Hameed Kosar said that Islam is the religion of love, affection, peace and justice and whole life of Prophet of Islam is a witness to it. He said that community would continue to propagate this message of love and harmony in order to establish absolute justice in society.
On the occasion several social workers and officers who have rendered yeoman’s serviced to the society were honoured by the community.
The programme was conducted by Gohar Hafeez Fani and it was co-coordinated by Mubashir Ahmad Mundashi. The vote of thanks was proposed by M Attauallah Nusrat.
