It is heartening as well as a historic moment that Jammu Airport has made entry into the select airports of the country where night flights land and take off ferrying passengers and cargo. Lieutenant Governor inaugurating the maiden flight to take off from the Airport heralds a new chapter in the aviation area of Jammu Airport. People were longing for starting of this facility which now would afford a lot of relief to passengers in scheduling travel as per convenience besides the facility generating economic activities too to some extent in the region.
Aerial connectivity is incomplete if restricted to operations during day time only and Jammu being a tourist destination, it was going to add to the tourist footfall . Producers of perishable commodities too would stand greatly benefitted as fruits , vegetables etc from the UT are to get the benefit of subsidised air transportation. It is a matter of satisfaction that the first consignment of cherries from Kashmir and Lichi from Jammu were despatched to destinations like Mumbai and Dubai etc. Needless to add, all the technical work on and off the runway for night flight operations have been completed and necessary equipment too installed. Remaining works in respect of runway are expected to be all complete by August 31 which in other words means that more flights for more destinations could operate from this Airport.
