CHENNAI, May 31: In a shocking incident, a brawl in the night club in the city cost the life of a teen aged girl–said to be a Sri Lankan National and an inmate of the Lankan Rehabilitation camp in Villupuram district, about 160 km from here– in Chennai city, after enraged youths mowed her two-wheeler with their car at the busy Koyambedu area late on Saturday night.
One her friends, a 17-year-old, sustained serious injuries and was admitted to hospital for treatment, even as police arrested three members of the youth gang while search operations were on the the remaining culprits, police said in a release here this evening. .
It all started over a verbal duel while dancing at a night club, between the girl, said to be a Sri:Lankan Tamil and the youth gang.
As it lead to fisticuffs and physical assault, the bouncers in the club pacified them and managed to leave the club.
However, the trouble arose again near a shop outside the club, with the same bouncers once again pacifying them. After this, when Yancy (18) and her friend left in a two-wheeler towards Tirumangalam area, the gang tailed them, following which stones were hurled at them by those travelling along with Yancy.
Enraged by this, the youth, who werein the car, mowed her two-wheeler at a high speed, killing Yancy on the spot and fled the scene, leaving her friend battling for life.
Police rushed to the spot and shifted the body of the deceased to the government hospital for autopsy and also admitted her critically injured friend to the hospital.
Acting swiftly and pursuing leads picked up from the spot and based on CCTV footages, police registered cases, including on charges of murder, and arrested three ofthe gang members–Balaguru (21), Joshua (19) and Kishore kumar (19) and seized the car.
After questioning them, special police teams were formed to nab the remaining killers.
According to reports, the deceased girl was living with her family in the Villupuram rehabilitation camp and had come to Chennai to meet a friend,
and visited the club when the tragedy occurred.
