Srinagar, Mar 25: Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr Farooq Abdullah today said that National Investigation Agency (NIA) will clear the controversy between Jammu and Kashmir Police and Delhi police over the arrest of Liyaqat Ali Shah.
Shah was arrested by Delhi police on charges of masterminding attacks in Delhi on the occasion of Holi but the Jammu and Kashmir police and family claims that he was on way to his home to surrender under Rehabilitation policy of the Government.
“The Union Government has ordered the NIA probe into Liyaqat’s arrest so that the reality would come out. If he proves innocent, he would be released. Handing over the case to the NIA will clear the contradiction between Delhi police and Jammu and Kashmir police over his arrest,” Abdullah said on the sidelines of a function held at Radio Kashmir Srinagar.
Abdullah said that State Government has taken a prompt action and asked the Home Minister to look into his arrest as Shah had already applied under rehabilitation policy announced by the Government. “We are also interested to know the reality. If he had applied under rehabilitation policy, on what circumstances was he arrested later,” he said.
Supporting the decision of Union Minority Affairs Ministry to set up special courts to probe the cases of Muslim youths, who are allegedly involved in various terror related cases, Abdullah said: “Aim of the Government is that we want no innocent Muslim youth to be send to jail. We also demand that the cases against Muslim youth be reviewed,” he said.
The Union Minister said that entire United Progressive Alliance Government knows that keeping innocents Muslims in custody is a serious offence. “Government is committed to take strong action against officers found responsible in all such cases and will ensure that such incidents do not happen in future,” he added.
