NIA arrests 3 in weapons’ theft

SRINAGAR, Mar 12: The National Investigating Agency (NIA) arrested three persons in theft of seven AK-47 rifles from the residence of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader and former MLA Aijaz Ahmad Mir last year.
The accused have been identified as Parveez Ahmad Wani, 35, son of Gulam Mohammad Wani, resident of village Thokarpora, Shopian, Javid Yousuf Dar, 21, son of Mohammad Yousuf Dar, resident of Gundi Darvesh, Shopian and Subzar Ahmad Kumar, 20, son of Manzoor Ahmad Kumar resident of Shermal, Shopian.
It may be mentioned here that seven AK-47 rifles were stolen from the guard room of official residence of Aijaz Ahmad Mir, ex-MLA of Wachi, at Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar last year.
SPO Adil Bashir Sheikh son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh of Zainapora, Shopian was attached with him at his official residence. Last year on September 28, the SPO fled away with 7 AK rifles issued to the security personnel attached with the PDP leader and also a personal pistol of the MLA.
Police had registered a case (FIR No. 57/2018 dated 28.09.2018 u/s 380 of RPC, Sec. 07, 25 of Arms Act, 03 of PEPO Act and 16,18, 20 & 38 of the UA (P) Act) in Police Station Rajbagh, Srinagar. The case was later registered by NIA (RC-32/2018/NIA/DLI ) as well and investigation taken up.
The NIA during the investigation found that SPO Adil Bashir Sheikh and his associates Yawar Ahmad Dar son of Mushtaq Ahmad Dar resident of Thokarpora, Shopian and Rafique Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Ashraf Bhat of Achan, Pulwama had taken away the weapons as part of conspiracy hatched by Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) leadership.
The NIA had earlier arrested accused Rafique Ahmad Bhat in the instant case. Adil Bashir Sheikh and Yawar Ahmad Dar are still absconding.
The NIA during investigation found that Parveez Ahmad Wani, Javid Yousuf Dar and Subzar Ahmad Kumar had provided logistical support to the Adil and Yawar as a part of the conspiracy.
The arrested accused Parveez Ahmad Wani, Javid Yousuf Dar and Subzar Ahmad Kumar will be produced in the Special NIA Court, Jammu tomorrow for seeking police custody for further investigation and unearthing the larger conspiracy.
