NHPC asks public to stay away from Chenab River

JAMMU, Aug 2: The management of the National Hydroelectric Power Commission (NHPC) has warned the public in Doda and Kishtwar towns to stay away from Chenab River on August 4 and 5.
“We advise the public in Doda and Kishtwar towns in general and villages Dul, Benzwar, Cherhar, Bhandarkot, Hasti, Kandani, Prem Nagar, and Pull Doda in particular to not move near River Chenab from 2300 hours on August 4, 2023 up to 1800 hours on August 5, 2023 as the gates of Dulhasti Power Station dam shall be opened for reservoir flushing during this period,” read a statement issued by NHPC Dulhasti management.
As per the statement, the water level of the River Chenab may rise up to 2 to 3 meters in the river downstream area of the Dul Dam during the reservoir flushing period.
Therefore, the public residing near and in the downstream areas of River Chenab has been cautioned to refrain from moving themselves, their cattle, trucks & tipper near the banks of River to avoid any mishap.
“Anybody violating the request shall be doing so at his/her own risk and responsibility and NHPC Dulhasti Power Station management shall not be responsible for the consequences,” the statement further said.
