Today on 15th day of their strike, hundreds of NHM employees not only from Jammu but also Kashmir and Ladakh assembled at Exhibition Ground and then in the form of a peaceful rally moved towards Governor House.
However, the police deployed at Dogra Chowk restricted their move by arresting president of All J&K National Health Mission Employees’ Association, Rohit Seth. The agitating employees later staged a massive protest at Dogra Chowk demanding release of their leader and dispersed only after he was released by the police.
NHM employees also held a protest demonstration at MD Office, Nagrota and closed it. Raising slogans in support of their demands like regularization of services, implementation of ‘equal pay for equal work’ orders apart from accord to ‘social security benefits’, they warned the Government not to test their patience.
The protests of NHM employees were also held in various parts of Kashmir including District headquarters and Block head quarters. “At this stage of life when we have dedicated 12 years of our service to the department there is no other alternative. We need a secure future as we cannot apply for fresh jobs or think of a career change at this stage”, they said and appealed Governor SP Malik to fulfill their demands at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the coordination committee of NHM, RNTCP, JKSACS employees decided to extend their strike for another 72 hours i.e. till January 29.
