RAMBAN, Dec 18: Under the supervision of NHAI officials, SDM Banihal Mohammad Naseeb and SHO Banihal, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) here today demolished over two dozen illegal structures along the vital Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) in Banihal and Sherbibi areas.
Presence of cops ensured the smooth demolition.
Sources informed that Shubham Yadav, Officer on Special Duty for Highway Administration and Project Director at NH-44 (Ramban), recently flagged over 60 unauthorized structures and access points during a spot check which prompted the demolition operation.
Officials claimed the move aligns with Supreme Court directives relayed through the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, aimed at clearing national highways for public safety and smoother traffic.
As a critical lifeline connecting Jammu and Srinagar, NH-44 faces heightened risks from such encroachments, which jeopardize road safety and traffic flow.
A handout stated that NHAI vows to press on with the campaign in days ahead, targeting further violations to curb accidents and secure seamless vehicle movement.
