NHAI, CPPL destroying Chenab ecology: Ex-MLA

RAMBAN, July 2: Former MLA from Ramban, Ashok has expressed serious concerns over the continuous illegal dumping of debris directly into river Chenab despite heavy penalties enforced in the past.
The un-curbed corruption and mis-management by NHAI and CPPL has resulted in ecological imbalance of Chenab river. He questioned two times Member of Parliament from this Constituency for completely ignoring the work culture of corruption and mis-management in the process of construction of Four- lane Project NH-44 in last 7 years which have triggered man-made land slides, loss of innocent lives, agricultural land and human settlement besides huge ecological imbalance in Ramban district.
In a statement issued here, former MLA said there is no democracy in Union Territory of J&K as the ecological rights are being exploited by the concerned companies in broad day time. This is about our environment and ecology. Government duty is to protect the environment, not to destroy it.
He urged upon the Lieutenant Governor to direct the concerned authorites to immediately take action against those who are destroying the environment and ecology of Ramban district and river Chenab.
Ashok Kumar further said that due to man-made triggered land slides in this stretch, many commuters have lost their lives. The locals commuters have to face daily traffic menace risking their lives even Army convoy have to face many difficulties in this stretch. Serious patients in ambulance often stuck in between due to this menace. Locals are facing both heavy dust pollution. Government have completely ignored this aspect. Ramban is no more safe for human settlement now. Government is violating even the personal and ecological rights of the people and region, he alleged.
