NH restored, 30 rescued in Poonch

JAMMU, July 29: The traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was restored today while at least 30 villagers were rescued from flooded Suran river in Sanei area of Poonch this morning.
Official sources said that after clearance of landslides and boulders in Mehar, Cafeteria Morh and Panthyal area of Ramban sector, the movement of traffic was restored on Jammu-Srinagar highway at around 11 am today. The authorities cleared stranded Shri Amarnath Ji pilgrims at Chanderkote at first and then allowed movement of stranded light motor vehicles from both sides. Later, the movement of heavy vehicles towards Kashmir was also allowed.
Reports from Poonch said that Army and SDRF teams rescued at least 30 members of six families, including 10 females and 15 children from Bela hamlet near Chandak bridge, trapped in flash flood of Suran river. The Army boats were used to rescue them this morning. SSP Poonch, Additional DC Poonch and DyCO of 93 Infantry Bridge were supervising the operation.
Another report said that in Mahore and Chassana area of Reasi district atleast 11 Kucha houses were damaged due to heavy rain since yesterday. However, no loss of life has been reported.
