NH blocked after landslides, restored

JAMMU, Feb 1: The vehicular traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which was suspended after landslides in Banihal area of Ramban district during early morning hours today, was restored this evening.
Official sources said that due to fresh landslide near Sher Bibi in Ramban area at around 5 am on Wednesday, the traffic on busy Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was suspended. A large number of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the highway. A truck was trapped in the mudslide near Sher Bibi which was pulled out late with the help of JCB.
As the restoration work was in progress another landslide occurred at Ramperhi near Banihal during noon. The highway could be cleared at around 5.30 pm this evening.

Due to massive landslides in Ramban sector and snowfall in Banihal and Qazigund areas, the highway was blocked on Monday and was reopened hardly on Tuesday evening. But it was again blocked in the morning. No fresh vehicles from Srinagar or Jammu side were allowed today. The LMVs in large number had been stranded at several places on the highway. All the stranded vehicles in Banihal and Ramban area were cleared by late this evening. The road was one-way for traffic at several places and heavy vehicles will be allowed to move tomorrow morning, a Traffic police official said.
