NEW DELHI, Oct 28: A delegation of 20 newly elected members of Manipur Autonomous District Councils today formally called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh at his office and conveyed their firm commitment to cooperate with DoNER Ministry and Government of India in ensuring peace and uninterrupted developmental activity in the region. They also submitted a memorandum of demands and suggestions to the Minister.
The Councillors conveyed to the Union DoNER Minister the Northeast People’s yearning for peace and called for expediting the peace process initiated by the Modi Government. They said, they will oppose any move or political resolution which works against the peace process or wishes of the people.
The Councillors also urged upon Dr Jitendra Singh to impress upon the State Government of Manipur to desist from passing controversial bills which are, according to them, against the interests of the minorities and tribals. In this regard, they mentioned the recently passed Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015 and Manipur Land Revenue & Land Reforms (7th Amendment) Bill, 2015.
The memorandum submitted to the Minister also seeks to draw the attention to the implications of the 14th Finance Commission with a plea for sufficient funds for upgrading public facility in areas of health, rural education, sanitation, rural roads, housing, vocational training and agriculture.
Dr Jitendra Singh conveyed his best wishes to the newly elected Councillors and hoped that their term in office will turn over a new leaf in PM’s Peace and Development Mission for Northeast. He also asked them to go to the masses and convince every section of society that the peace process initiated by the Modi Government is ultimately going to benefit each and everyone.
Among the Councillors who called on Dr Jitendra Singh were Chairman, Autonomous District Council (ADC) Senapati ML.Markson, Chairman ADC Tamenglong Namsinrei Panmei, Chairman ADC Ukhrul Dr Yaronsho Ngalung and other senior members.
