NEW DELHI, Oct 21:
In a first high-level meeting between India and Pakistan in recent past, Pakistan High Commissioner to India Sohail Mahmood met with External Affairs Sushma Swaraj on October 17, sources said here on Saturday.
“It is customary for the newly posted envoys to make courtesy call on local dignitaries,” a diplomatic source said here.
“No specific issues came up at talks,” the source said. Mr Mahmood, who officially took charge as Pakistan’s envoy to India just last month discussed the current state of affairs in his first ever bilateral meeting with Ms Swaraj. The meeting was held in cordial and constructive atmosphere, sources said. Mr Mahmood replaces Mr Abdul Basit, whose tenure as Pakistani envoy to India began in March 2014, a few months before the NDA Government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assumed office.
