JAMMU, Nov 22: Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha (JCMS) has termed the ‘New Land Laws’ notified recently by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir as ‘Anti-Mahajan’ and against the spirit of equality before law.
“In our country, any people, anywhere in India can purchase land but it is extremely sad that Mahajans of J&K union territory cannot purchase even one Marla of Agricultural land i.e. 1st, 2nd or 3rd rate land in this union territory whereas there is no such restriction on people belonging to other communities,” JCMS leaders said in a meeting held here today.
The Sabha leaders said that it is a gross injustice to Mahajan community in J&K as all the citizens of the country are treated equally before law irrespective of caste, colour or creed. “This discrimination is also anti-constitutional as per Indian Constitution, all the people belonging to different communities should be treated equal,” they rued.
The JCMS leaders said it is an admitted fact that Mahajan community of J&K which is comprised of more than 10 lakh souls always played pivotal role in various fields and by their intelligence, honesty and hard work brought all round development in this union territory but it is a matter of criminal discrimination that they have been kept away from the field of agriculture.
“Mahajans were never allowed to purchase agriculture land to show their ability in agriculture sector. Had they been allowed to purchase agriculture land, they would have proved their ability to bring appreciable improvement in the agriculture sector also,” regretted Mahajan Sabha leaders.
The meeting which was held under the presidentship of Romesh Chander Gupta, passed a resolution to appeal J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to look into the matter personally and remove this discrimination in the new land laws of the UT.
Those who attended the meeting include Yash Paul Gupta, Rattan Lal Gupta (Advocate), Amar Chand Gupta, Shiv Partap Gupta, Om Parkash Mahajan, Om Parkash Gupta, Sanjay Mahajan, Rajesh Chowdhary, Prabhu Dayal Gupta, Arun Gupta, Dr Mohan Lal Gupta, C P Gupta, Mukesh Mahajan, Balbir Gupta, Romesh Chander Gupta, Satish Chander Gupta, Darshan Gupta, Vijay Gupta and Subhash Chander Gupta.
