New knee replacement technique launched at Ivy Hospital

CHANDIGARH, Jan 24: Punjab Health and Family Minister, Balbir Singh Sidhu launched True Motion Technique (TMT) for knee replacement at Ivy Hospital Mohali in the presence of Dr Kanwaldeep, MD of the Hospital, here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Heath Minister said that this kind of new technique would help knee patients a lot. “Punjab has many knee patients and they could benefit from this technique,” he said, adding that this kind of patient friendly technique will help to improve people’s lifestyle besides increasing quality and duration of life.
TMT was devised by Dr Bhanu Pratap Singh Saluja who is working with Ivy Hospital as Director Ortho. Before joining the Hospital, he had worked in Australia, Germany, England and Scotland.
Giving details of the new technique, Dr Bhanu said that the TMT gives the full range of motion within 48-hours of surgery. “After a knee replacement surgery, the patient can walk within six hours of surgery with stitch-less incision and no further follow-up required,” Dr Bhanu asserted, adding that the patient can also climb stairs within two days of surgery and go back home without support just in four days of surgery.
“Arthritis patient deserves special attention in the society. 60 percent of people out of 1.5 billion are suffering from arthritis. I have designed this very simple and elegant technique for knee replacement which involves only 15 to 20 minutes of surgical time”, he claimed.
Dr Bhanu also narrated benefits of the new techniques including minimum incision, minimum blood loss, minimum stay of 4-5 days, stitch-less knee replacement, no ICU stay, minimum surgical time of 15-20 minutes only, recovery to room facility (R2R) and many others.
