Tourism and its related issues must periodically be reviewed to find scope for introducing and thus adding new initiatives that were related to the needs of the tourists, their comfortable stay and various facilities and that all at competitive prices. In this connection, slightly unconventional measures like ‘Home Stay’, tented accommodation at famous tourist destinations and the like must be popularised which besides giving a new feel and experience to tourists shall address hotel accommodation like problems at peak time when almost all Hotels have full occupancy. This was recently experienced in Kashmir valley due to an unprecedented tourist rush. Besides these, identifying new trekking routes, adventure activities, border tourism and the like need to be explored and promoted in a significant way. It is commendable that the UT Government is according attention to these issues and the Lt. Governor himself having called for a detailed report on the progress of these innovative schemes and measures from the concerned authorities shall infuse a newness in the approach to tourism related matters. Targets having been set and accordingly assessing levels of fulfilling must be a practice on constant basis.
