LEH, May 24: In order to strengthen local participation in the region’s infrastructure sector, a new association under the name of the Ladakh Infra Developer Alliance (LIDA) was officially formed here today.
The alliance brings together key stakeholders from 11 major unions, including contractors, transporters and infrastructure-related associations.
The association is comprised the Contractor Association Leh, Electrical Contractors Association of Leh, Ladakh Cooperative Transport (Truck Union), 407 Cooperative Union, MES Builders Association – Leh Branch, Crusher Plant Association of Leh, Sand Suppliers Association of Leh, JCB Union Leh, Borewell Union – Leh, Solar Association of Leh and the Central Heating Union of Leh.
The elected executive members of LIDA included, chairman Tsering Angchuk Tsao, co-chairman Sonam Angchuk Chumkar (president, Contractor Association Leh), general secretary Gelek Phunchok D’Lonpo (president, Electrical Contractors Association Leh), joint secretaries Ghulam Mohd Baldar and Nawang Thinless D’Lonpo, secretary Tsewang Rigzin Chhirpon and treasurer Asgar Ali.
All presidents of the participating unions will serve as ex officio executive members.
In this regard an interaction with major socio-religious and political organisations, who unanimously supported the alliance’s demands.
During the meeting, challenges faced by local contractors, such as limited working seasons, harsh terrain, exploitation by large external firms and subletting practices were highlighted.
Among others who extended their support included Chering Dorjay Lakrook (president, LBA & co-chairman, Apex Body Leh), Venerable Tsering Angdus (president, Ladakh Gonpa Association), Phunchok Stanzin (BJP state president, Ladakh), Ashraf Ali Barcha (president, Anjuman Imamia), Dr Abdul Qayoom (president, Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam), Rigzin Namgyal (president, District Congress Committee), Tsering Motup (president, Nambardar Association Leh), Ghulam Hussain (president, Sufia Noorbakhshi Leh), Skarma Togdan (coordinator, AAP Leh) and Tsering Angchuk (president, Merchant Association Leh).
