Nepali boy dies of COVID in Leh, 88 +ve in J&K

JAMMU/SRINAGAR/ LEH, July 24: A 14-year-old boy died of COVID-19 and five persons tested positive in the Union Territory of Ladakh while Jammu and Kashmir didn’t report any fatality but 88 new cases today.
A 14-year-old Nepali youth, who had sustained head injuries in an accident in Leh on July 21, succumbed to injuries and COVID-19 in Leh hospital today.
With this, Corona toll in Ladakh has gone up to 207—149 in Leh and 58 in Kargil.
All five fresh COVID positives cases in Ladakh were reported from Leh.
Ladakh’s Corona count now stood at 20289 including 67 active positives, 20015 recoveries and 207 casualties.
In Jammu region, 33 COVID positive cases were reported, 11 of them in Doda district, five Jammu, four each Rajouri, Kishtwar and Ramban, three Reasi and one each in Poonch and Udhampur districts. Kathua and Samba districts didn’t report any fresh cases.
Sixty nine persons recovered from the virus today.
Jammu region now has 1,21,438 Corona cases. Among them, only 528 are active positives while 1,18,772 have recovered from the virus and there have been 2138 casualties.
Meanwhile, Kashmir today reported 55 fresh cases of COVID-19.
For the first time this year so far, the COVID-19 active positive cases have come down to just 1,319 in J&K.
During the second wave peak in May, active cases in J&K were over 50,000 but now cases have come down to just 1,319 and among them around 791 are from Kashmir.
Out of 148 hospitalised patients, 100 are in Kashmi.
Those who tested positive include 27 from Srinagar, 5 from Budgam, 2 from Pulwama, 4 from Kupwara, 03 from Anantnag, 2 from Bandipora, 7 from Ganderbal, 4 from Kulgam and 1 from Shopian.
As per officials figures, 71,121 positive cases including 832 deaths and 69,958 recoveries are from Srinagar, 23,518 including 282 deaths and 23,163 recoveries are from Baramulla, 22,835 including 22,562 recoveries and 205 deaths are from Budgam, 15,135 including 14,870 recoveries and 194 deaths are from Pulwama, 14,032 including 165 deaths and 13,817 recoveries are from Kupwara, 16,304 including 16,032 recoveries and 205 deaths are from Anantnag, 9,459 cases including 9,302 and 100 deaths are from Bandipora, 9,847 including 9,702 recoveries and 78 deaths are from Ganderbal, 11,223 including 11,094 recoveries and 117 deaths are from Kulgam and 5,579 including 5,511 recoveries and 58 deaths are from Shopian.
The number of cases in Kashmir division has reached 199,053 including 196,026 recoveries and 2,236 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 1,319 including 791 from Kashmir division.
With 179 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 314,798, which is 98.23 percent of the total cases.
Meanwhile, authorities today imposed weekend lockdown in Srinagar and other districts of the Valley to prevent the third wave.
Administration announced weekend lockdown in Srinagar and other districts in order to prevent the virus from spreading. All the markets and shops across Srinagar especially in commercial hub Lal Chowk remained closed throughout the day.
District administration Srinagar had deputed Enforcement Squads accompanied by the Magistrates at different locations in the city to keep check on the people found violating the COVID-19 SOPS and not adhering to appropriate behavior.
The DDMA Srinagar had said that strict action will be taken against COVID protocol violators and those found not wearing masks in public places will have to face FIR.
