Nehru suppressed critics of Art 370: Prof Gupta

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Nov 26: The Day of 26th November is quite important in the annals of history of India as on this day in 1949, the Indian Constitution was approved by the Constituent Assembly and came in force on January 26th , 1950,. The Constitution is one of the best statue books of the world as this provided equal opportunities to all kind of people but unfortunately, this is discriminatory towards the State of J&K but for article 370.
Making these observations, the former Union Minister and also the author of the book viz. Article 370- A Thorn, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta said that though this obnoxious provision was temporary but unfortunately this not only existed even after expiry of 70 long years of trouble and turmoil but also separate status was created under communal and parochial considerations to appease his friend, Sheikh Mohd Abdullah by the Prime Minister, Shri Jawahar Lal Nehru.
Prof. Gupta recalled that the founding father of the Constitution, Dr. B.R Ambedkar was opposed to this provision by saying that being the Law Minister of the country, he cannot be discriminatory to the countrymen as the people of J&K would enjoy all the rights in the entire country, but in this State the people of rest of India would not have any right. The situation thus created, Nehru had to employ the services of another Minister, Gopala Swami Aayangar to pilot Article 370, which was adopted as a temporary measure.
Moreover, the Prime Minister, Nehru had assured the agitated nationalist members of the Constituent Assembly including Moulana Hassrat Mohani and others that this was just a temporary measure which would wither away with the passage of time, he added and recalled that the great visionary Pt. Prem Nath Dogra did not agree with the assertions of Nehru by saying that an evil can be opted but it is not easy to get rid of it. For this opposition, Pt. Dogra was arrested and jailed accusing him and his colleagues as reactionaries and communalist, but Pandit Ji did not yield to pressures. The time has proved that Pandit Ji was right and Nehru was out of the way, Prof. Gupta added and said that because of the struggle of Praja Parishad and supreme sacrifice of great national leader, Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherji several walls of separatism have been demolished but the dangers still continue to loom large and temporary Article continue to cause problems to the extent of root for Azadi and Autonomy coupled with cross border terror but for the elements masquerading as secular but in real were infected by virus of communalism and religious bigotry.
