Srinagar, Mar 28: Many NEET-SS candidates from Kashmir were unable to travel to Jammu, Delhi, and other locations as several flights were today cancelled at Srinagar Airport due to strong, gusty winds.
Candidates said that as the Government failed in setting up an exam centre in Kashmir, they had booked air tickets to reach their examination centers for the exam scheduled on Saturday morning.
However, chaos ensued at Srinagar Airport due to flight cancellations, with some waiting for rescheduled flights and others booking cabs to reach their destinations.
Candidates pointed out that every year, aspirants from Kashmir are forced to spend significant amounts of money and several days just to appear for the examination.
“This has become the norm for candidates appearing in this exam. The authorities can set up an exam center for NEET-PG but not for NEET-SS, which is unfair and sheer injustice,” said Dr Shariq, one of the candidates.
Candidates further noted that the only available exam center in Jammu filled up quickly, leaving many with no choice but to select examination centers in Delhi and elsewhere.
Aspirants highlighted that the exam not only takes up several days but also imposes a considerable financial burden on them.
Notably, before the registration process began, aspirants from Kashmir had urged the government to arrange an examination center for them, but their request was ignored.
The Health & Medical Education (H&ME) Minister had assured that the matter would be examined, yet no resolution was reached.
The aspirants once again urged the authorities to address the issue and take immediate steps to establish NEET-SS examination centers in Kashmir from the next session.
Interestingly, in response to a grievance submitted by the aspirants, the National Board of Examinations (NBE)-which conducts the exam-stated that it will consider setting up a NEET-SS center for future exams.
