This has reference to the ‘write up’A case for Duggar Channel’ by OP Sharma( DE,May 31,2015).There is little doubt that an exclusive Duggar Channel which can promote the composite culture of the Duggar region and play an important role in countering the anti- India propaganda by our belligerant neighbour is the need of the hour.The author has dilligently elicited the views of prominent citizens including politicians, writers, intelligentia and cross section of society, who have unequivocally pleaded for the commissioning of the Duggar Channel to fulfil the aspirations of the Dogras.Duggar Channel, if launched, can play a vital role in promoting literary and cultural activities of the Duggar region, besides preserving the rich culure of the Dogras.There is dire need to preserve our folklores such as Geetrus, Bhaakhs,Masades,Baaran etc and folk art and dance which are losing charm with the young generation because of their little exposure to them.Dogras have a cultural identity of their own and there is no other means more effective than an exclusive Duggar Channel to preserve the rich culture of the Dogras and transmit it to the posterity.It will also help in boosting the Dogri language and Dogri music, sweet as they are and popularising them not only in the Duggar region but also across the borders.It will also prove to be helpful in counterring anti India propaganda by the forces operating from across the border and inimical to the unity and integrity of our country.Last but not not least,it will provide an opportunity to the budding youngsters to display their talent and the elderly folk to hear the programmes in their own language and thus, satisfy their emotions.Thus,it is time the Govt conceded this most genuine demand without much delay.
