PANAJI, Oct 17: Observing that 349 new HIV cases were detected in the state till date, Goa Health Minister Laximikant Parsekar today said that this figure could be brought down to zero and asked the local self government bodies to be vigilant about the ill effects of this life threatening disease. Speaking after inaugurating a daylong sensitization workshop on HIV/AIDS organized by Goa AIDS Control Society in collaboration with Directorate of Panchayat for all Panchayat members of Sanguem, Mr Parsekar called upon the representatives of local self government BOdies to support the endeavours of the government in dispensing information and spreading the message among the community about dreaded killer AIDS and bring down the new HIV/AIDS cases to zero level in Goa. Listing the measures initiated by the government to improve the health care services in the state, the Health Minister, who earlier flagged off the information, education and communication (IEC) van for AIDS awareness campaign, said that this van will cover entire Goa in next three months. He added that state has succeeded in total eradication of plague, leprosy and polio diseases.
