JAMMU, Oct 6: State unit of Nationalist Congress Party staged protest demonstration against the Government for increasing rates of fuel including diesel and LPG cylinders in the country.
The activists of the party from its all frontal organization like youth wing, trade union, minority cell etc, assembled under the leadership of former Minister and State president of the party Thakur Randhir Singh at Press Club here and launched day long protest dharna. Several senior party leaders addressed the gathering and strongly criticized the Government for reducing the subsidy on the LPG and raising price of diesel and LPG cylinders.
State president of the party while addressing the gathering alleged that with the announcement of reduction in the subsidy on LPG cylinders, a massive crisis has been created throughout the State. On the name of verification, the consumer is being victimized/ harassed. The elderly men and women are seen standing in long queues at the outlets and they keep waiting for the turn, for hours together. The home delivery of the LPG has been stopped and many connections have been blocked/ cancelled, causing inconvenience to the people.
Mr Singh pointed out that due to fuel hike, other sectors have also been affected and ultimately this burden has come on the general public. The rates of every item have gone high as transporters have also announced freight hike. It has made the life of common man miserable. He alleged that industrial policy of the State was anti-farmer as nearly 9000 kanal agriculture land in Ghati, Nanan and Kalna area in Kathua tehsil is being acquired by SIDCO for industrial units.
