JAMMU, Dec 12: State unit of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) celebrated the 77th birthday of the party national president Sharad Pawar at party office here today.
The NPC’s state unit functionaries led by its president, Thakur Randhir Singh (former minister), celebrated the occasion and distributed sweets among the party members.
While speaking on the occasion, Randhir Singh recalled his 60 year- old association with Sharad Pawar and described him as a dynamic national leader who, served the country in different capacities and still contributing for the nation. He remained Chief Minister of Maharashtra four times and then became Defence Minister. He said Khardungla Pass the highest motorable road in Ladakh was constructed and opened during his tenure as Defence Minister.
The NCP leader demanded setting up of Minority Commission in the J&K state. He said it was already existing during Dr Farooq Abdullah’s time but became non-existent. The Government should not hesitate to frame the same in the State, he added.
Senior party members KK Digra, R C Bali, Col Amar Singh also spoke on the occasion. All the leaders wished healthy and long life to Sharad Pawar.
