NCETMS-2018 concludes at SMVDU

KATRA, Feb 8: The two-day National Conference on “Emer-ging Trends in Materials Science (NCETMS-2018)”, organized by School of Physics, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University Katra, concluded today.
Dr Yugal Khajuria, Head School of Physics was the chairperson, Dr Kamni was the convener, Dr Jitendra Sharma and Dr Vivek Kumar Singh were the co-conveners while Dr Ram Praksh and Pankaj Biswas were the Organizing Secretary and Joint Secretary, respectively. Dr S. K. Wanchoo, the senior most faculty from the School, was among the national advisory committee and became the inspiring mentor towards organizing the conference.
Prof K K Bamzai from Department of Physics, University of Jammu, chaired the valedictory function. He addressed the audience with his insightful words. Prof V K Bhat, guest of honor and Dean Faculty of Sciences and Dr Yugal Khajuria also shared their thoughts and graced the occasion.
Prof Jagdish P Singh, an Emeritus Professor at Energy Institute and Department of Physics and Astronomy, Mississippi State University, delivered plenary lecture on “Applications of Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy to Food Sciences”.
Prof Pankaj Poddar, Principal Scientist at CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, exp-lained “superatoms in nanoparticles and their applications in sensing, therapy and imaging”.
Prof Rajnikant from University of Jammu gave another plenary lecture on “Interdisciplinary research: its significance in the present context” which was particularly interesting for the young M Sc students who would pursue research as their career. Prof. Ashok K Pathak, Prof P N Kotru, Prof Arun Srivastava, and Prof Ajit K Mahapotra were among other eminent invited speakers.
Prof. Pankaj Poddar, Dr Ajit Kumar, Dr. Vivek Kr Singh, Prof Ashok Kumar Pathak, Dr Jitendra Sharma and Dr Ram Prakash chaired the poster sessions and out of 63 posters, three were presented Best Poster Award. The first prize was fetched by Malvika Tripathi of  UGC-DAE CSR Indore, second prize was shared by Supriyo Majumder of UGC-DAE CSR Indore and Seema Verma from University of Jammu while the third prize was also shared by Neha Sawhney from Department of Chemistry and Sandeep Kumar from SMVDU. Dr  Kamni, convener of NCETMS-2018 delivered vote of thanks.
