MENDHAR, June 16: The National Conference activists today held protest demonstration followed by dharna on the road, disrupting movement of traffic for about two hours.
The activists of the National Conference took out a protest march in the town and then moved towards main chowk and sat on dharna at around 12 noon. They were raising slogans against local police, civil administration and also against Mufti Govt. They carried banners and placards in their hands. Later, the MLA Javed Rana also joined them at the dharna site.
The agitating local NC leaders alleged that Administration was harassing the NC workers on different pretexts and they were not being allowed construction on their own land. They are being booked in false cases and harassment is being done on the behest of local PDP leaders.
The movement of traffic came to halt and big traffic jam was created in the town. Later, SDPO Shaid Mahim and Naib Tehsildar moved to the site and pacified the agitating workers and cleared the road.
Official sources said that a close relative of the local MLA started construction work of shops illegally on the Custodian land at Gohlad in Mendhar just close to Hanuman Temple. JCBs were used to divert the flow of nalla water towards the temple. The locals objected and the administration visited the spot and stopped the construction. After some time, this relative (father- in- law) Mohd Din, son of Bagh Hussain of Kalaban, at present Gohlad Mendhar started work on one kanal and 2 marla Custodian land (Khasra No. 594) without any permission. The Tehsildar Mendhar Dr Abdul Khabir stopped the work and the AC Revenue Poonch directed to lodge and FIR for this violation. While the accused without bothering for the police and Tehsil Administration even completed slab work on Sunday, the NC workers came out in the support of Mohd Din and sat on dharna.
Custodian Jammu Mohd Mushtaq Malik said that it was illegal activity and action under law will be taken against the accused for this violation. AC (R) Poonch, Shafiq Ahmed said that accused has violated the orders and has indulged in illegal activity. Tehsildar Mendhar has been directed to get an FIR registered in this connection.
