NC seeks arrest of Minister for threatening MLA of lynching

JAMMU, July 5: National Conference today came down heavily on PDP-BJP dispensation for having lost sense of proportion over the messy situation created on implementation of the GST in Jammu and Kashmir, saying their frustration got outpoured in worst form in the Legislative Assembly with a senior minister resorting to most unparliamentarily, unbecoming and filthy language to suppress contrarian views.
“That all this happened in presence of the PDP President and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and State BJP chief Sat Sharma speaks the level of connivance and conspiracy is all the more concerning”, senior party leaders said at an emergent meeting held at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here, convened to discuss the unprecedented scenario in the Assembly.
They sought immediate removal of the Minister Imran Ansari from the Council of Ministers and public unconditional public apologies to MLA Devender Singh Rana, who gave expression to the legitimate aspirations and concerns of the people. And, if in this case, the PDP-BJP fails to take a call on such a sensitive issue, it will be presumed that the present Government is suffering from the BJP’s lynch syndrome tendencies, which is bad omen for democracy and the State’s glorious traditions”, they added.
The NC leaders demanded registration of FIR against Ansari for threatening Rana. “He should be immediately arrested for threatening lynching of elected members inside the Assembly”, they said.
“How come the minister dared use BJP’s favourite phraseology of lynching against Rana with five other senior ministers standing in acknowledgement and the Chief Minister responding approvingly”, the NC leaders said, adding that for a moment it appeared that the House had been overtaken by goons.
The NC leaders warned the Government against any attempt of putting the issue under carpet, saying that in such a scenario the party cadre will be forced to take to streets.
Those who attended the meeting included Senior National Conference leaders and former Ministers Ajay Sadhotra, Surjeet Singh Slathia, Harbans Singh, State Vice President, Rattan Lal Gupta, Peer Mushtaq Bukhari, Central Secretary Abdul Gani Malik, Th. Rachpal Singh, Provincial Youth President Ajaz Jan, Ex Legislators, Khalid Najeed Suharwardy, Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Jagjeevan Lal, Qazi Jalal-Ud-Din, Babu Rampaul, Chaman Lal Bhagat, Mohd Aslam Khan, Haider Malik, Satpal Lakhotra, Dhian Chand, Bimla Luthra, Haji Mohd Hussain, Brij Mohan Sharma and Vijay Bakaya.
